A region around Kellaway Avenue and Mount Alexander Road at Moonee Ponds, not a long way from the principle shopping region, was shut to general society for a great part of the evening.
Police had shut Mount Alexander Rd in the two bearings, causing substantial movement.
A bomb squad robot was sent into the zone and onto a transport stopped along Kellaway Ave, close to the Moonee Valley Council central command, nearby library, police headquarters and famous Queens Park.
A police representative said police had now pronounced the territory safe.
A board office on Kellaway Ave was shut as police examined yet staff were not emptied, a representative said.
The Metropolitan Fire Brigade was likewise on scene.
