The North Carolina Department of Public Safety tweeted around 4 p.m. that the endeavored escape occurred at the Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Elizabeth City. Fires were set in the jail sewing plant and a few workers were harmed, as indicated by the tweet.
The jail houses just shy of 900 men, as per its site.
