Republican Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel says he is dropping his U.S. Senate offer, refering to his better half’s wellbeing.
Mandel’s choice reported Friday in an open letter to “loved ones” leaves Cleveland financier Mike Gibbons on the Republican side for the time being. Fair Sen. Sherrod Brown is looking for a third term, in the wake of crushing Mandel in 2012.
Mandel says in his letter that his better half has a medical problem that will require him being there for her and their three kids. He calls the choice “troublesome … in any case, it’s the correct one.”
A message looking for input was left Friday for Mandel.
The 40-year-old Iraq veteran says he will complete his second term as treasurer.
Darker unseated Republican Mike DeWine in 2006. DeWine is currently Ohio’s lawyer general and is running for representative.
